Raipur. In a major step toward digital governance and ease of doing business, the Chhattisgarh government has implemented a new GST payment facility that allows taxpayers to make payments using credit cards, debit cards, and UPI. The initiative, rolled out under the guidance of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai and the direction of Finance Minister O.P. Choudhary, marks a significant milestone in the state’s efforts to promote transparency and convenience in tax administration.
For several years, businesses, trade bodies, and the Chamber of Commerce had been demanding modern digital payment options for GST payments. Their demand has now been fulfilled as the State GST Department and the Treasury Department worked jointly to integrate digital payment systems with the GST portal.
Until now, taxpayers in Chhattisgarh could pay GST only through net banking or Over the Counter (OTC) methods. This limited access often led to technical issues, bank server downtime, and payment failures, especially for small and medium businesses. Many taxpayers had to rely on intermediaries, leading to unnecessary delays and inconvenience.
Finance Minister O.P. Choudhary emphasized that the new facility represents the state’s commitment to making taxation more efficient and taxpayer-friendly.
“The state government is continuously working to provide maximum convenience to taxpayers,” said Choudhary. “The new GST payment options through credit cards, debit cards, and UPI will make the process simpler, faster, and more transparent—particularly benefiting small businesses.”
Choudhary added that the initiative is part of the government’s broader vision to promote digital payments and strengthen ease of doing business in Chhattisgarh.

How to Use the New GST Payment Facility
The facility is now live on the official GST portal (www.gst.gov.in).
Taxpayers can log in to their GST accounts and pay directly using credit cards, debit cards, or UPI apps. The payment process is secure, user-friendly, and fully integrated with the GST system, ensuring real-time updates and transparency in transactions.
A Boost for Digital India and Transparency
Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai highlighted that this step aligns with the government’s mission to simplify and modernize governance.
“Our goal is to make administrative processes simple, accessible, and transparent for every citizen and business owner,” said the Chief Minister. “Expanding digital facilities like UPI and card payments for GST will bring speed, convenience, and trust to the tax system while promoting Chhattisgarh as a leader in digital governance and ease of doing business.”
Experts believe that this digital integration will not only enhance tax compliance but also improve departmental efficiency, reduce manual errors, and encourage digital transactions across the state.
Why This Matters for Businesses
For small and medium enterprises (SMEs), startups, and traders, this move is a game-changer. With faster, hassle-free payment options, businesses can now focus more on growth rather than grappling with technical glitches or dependency on limited banking channels.
The adoption of digital modes like UPI also helps the government track and ensure greater transparency in tax collection, paving the way for a more accountable and efficient governance model.
