Maruti Suzuki has unveiled the Fronx Flex Fuel Variant at the Japan Mobility Show 2025, marking a major step towards sustainable mobility in India. This model showcases the company’s commitment to supporting the Indian government’s ethanol blending policy, which aims to reduce dependence on fossil fuels and cut carbon emissions.
Developed specifically for the Indian market, the new Maruti Fronx Flex Fuel is capable of running on a fuel blend containing up to 85% ethanol (E85). This innovation highlights Maruti Suzuki’s readiness to align with India’s transition to eco-friendly and renewable fuel options like E20 and beyond.
Fronx Flex Fuel Engine and Performance
The Maruti Fronx Flex Fuel Variant features a modified 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine designed to handle high ethanol content. This flexible-fuel technology enables the car to operate efficiently even with blends of ethanol and petrol, reducing emissions significantly compared to conventional petrol engines.
Ethanol-based fuels not only emit fewer greenhouse gases but also promote the use of locally produced biofuels, supporting India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat vision.
Advanced Features of the Fronx Flex Fuel Variant
The Fronx Flex Fuel Concept displayed at the Japan Mobility Show comes with several premium upgrades compared to the India-spec Fronx. Key additional features include:
- Heated Front Seats – For added comfort in colder climates.
- Electronic Parking Brake with Auto Hold – For improved convenience and safety.
- Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) – Offering modern driver-assist technologies for enhanced safety.
Aside from these upgrades, the overall design, styling, and dimensions remain similar to the Indian model.
Current Powertrain Options for the Maruti Fronx (India)
The India-spec Maruti Fronx currently offers three powertrain choices:

Maruti Victoris CBG Variant: A Step Toward Renewable Gas Energy
Alongside the Fronx Flex Fuel, Maruti Suzuki also showcased the Maruti Victoris CBG Variant at the Japan Mobility Show 2025. This vehicle runs on Compressed Biomethane Gas (CBG) — a renewable energy source produced from animal waste and agricultural residues.
The use of CBG offers several benefits, including:
- Lower carbon emissions
- Sustainable fuel sourcing
- Better boot space due to the CBG tank being placed under the floor
This model underlines Maruti’s long-term vision to diversify green fuel technologies, including CNG, ethanol, hybrid, and electric solutions.
India’s Push for Ethanol and Green Mobility
India’s government has already rolled out E20 fuel (20% ethanol blend) and aims to achieve E85 compatibility in future vehicles. Maruti’s latest move shows clear support for this initiative and positions the brand as a pioneer in ethanol-powered vehicles.
With growing emphasis on sustainability and clean energy, the Maruti Fronx Flex Fuel Variant is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping India’s future mobility landscape.
A Step Closer to a Greener Future
The Maruti Fronx Flex Fuel Variant is not just a new model—it’s a milestone in India’s journey toward biofuel adoption and cleaner automotive technology. With advanced engineering, higher ethanol compatibility, and future-ready features, Maruti Suzuki is leading the charge in eco-conscious vehicle innovation.
The future of Indian mobility is flexible, sustainable, and efficient, and the Fronx Flex Fuel stands as a prime example of this transformation.
