Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: As Bihar gears up for the first phase of Assembly elections on November 6, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and Grand Alliance’s Chief Ministerial candidate Tejashwi Yadav has rolled out a series of major pre-election promises aimed at women, farmers, and government employees.

Calling this election a turning point, Tejashwi claimed that the people of Bihar are “ready for change” and “determined to end the current government’s rule.” With campaigning coming to an end today, his latest announcements have intensified the political buzz across the state.

₹30,000 for Women Under ‘Mai-Behan Man Yojana’

Tejashwi Yadav announced a direct financial assistance scheme for women if his party comes to power. Under the ‘Mai-Behan Man Yojana’, every woman in Bihar will receive ₹30,000 annually, credited directly to their bank accounts on Makar Sankranti (January 14).
He emphasized that the scheme aims to empower women financially and make them self-reliant, ensuring direct benefit transfer without middlemen.

Permanent Jobs and Pay Hike for Jeevika Didis

Highlighting women’s contributions through Bihar’s Jeevika program, Tejashwi promised that all Jeevika Didis and similar women workers will be made permanent employees.
Their honorarium will be increased to ₹30,000, along with an insurance cover worth ₹5 lakh and a monthly allowance of ₹2,000.

He stated that these measures are meant to acknowledge the critical role these women play in community development.

Old Pension Scheme for Government Employees

In a major move to attract the state’s workforce, Tejashwi assured that the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) will be reintroduced for government employees.
This announcement aims to bring relief to thousands of workers who have been demanding the restoration of OPS in place of the new contributory pension system.

Home-District Transfers for Employees and Police

Tejashwi also announced that police officers and government employees will be given transfer postings within 70 kilometers of their home districts.
He claimed this will help officials maintain a better work-life balance and boost administrative efficiency across Bihar.

Bonus and Free Electricity for Farmers

For Bihar’s agricultural sector, Tejashwi Yadav unveiled several farmer-friendly measures.
He promised:

  • A bonus of ₹300 per quintal over the MSP for paddy, and ₹400 per quintal over the MSP for wheat.
  • Free electricity for agricultural use, eliminating the current charge of 55 paise per unit.

He said these initiatives would reduce farmers’ input costs and improve their profitability, making agriculture more sustainable in the state.

Support for PACS Members

Tejashwi further announced that Primary Agricultural Credit Society (PACS) members would receive honorary status from the government.
Their honorarium will also be reviewed and increased to ensure that grassroots cooperative workers are recognized for their contribution to the rural economy.

‘Bihar Wants Change,’ Says Tejashwi

Wrapping up his final campaign speech before the voting, Tejashwi Yadav said,

“The people of Bihar — from women to youth — are in the mood for change. They are ready to build a new Bihar where every section of society is respected and supported.”

With these sweeping promises covering women’s welfare, farmer benefits, and government employee rights, Tejashwi Yadav’s campaign message aims to position the RJD-led alliance as a pro-people alternative ahead of the polls.

As the first phase of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 approaches, Tejashwi Yadav’s announcements are expected to play a crucial role in shaping voter sentiment.
Whether these promises will translate into votes remains to be seen, but the RJD’s welfare-heavy agenda has certainly stirred the political landscape of Bihar.
